The Ngorongoro Crater Day Trip
Early morning start: Day trips typically begin with an early departure from Arusha, around 6:00 AM. You’ll travel through scenic landscapes, passing Maasai villages and the beautiful Rift Valley.
Descent into the crater: As you reach the rim of the crater, prepare to be amazed by the panoramic view. The descent into the crater takes roughly 45 minutes, offering breathtaking vistas.
Wildlife viewing: The Ngorongoro Crater boasts the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa per square kilometer. Keep your eyes peeled for the Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes. You might also spot zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, jackals, and a plethora of bird species.
Lunch break: Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the stunning scenery, often near the hippo pools where you can witness these fascinating creatures.
Afternoon game drive: Continue your exploration of the crater floor in the afternoon, encountering more wildlife and the diverse landscapes within the crater, including the Ngoitoktok Springs, a permanent water source for the animals.
Ascent from the crater: As the day winds down, embark on the scenic ascent from the crater, taking in the final views of this magnificent natural wonder.
Return to Arusha: Relax on the return journey to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon, filled with memories of your incredible day trip.
