Experience one of nature’s most dramatic events on a 3-day fly-in safari that begins and ends in Zanzibar, ideal for exploring the southern Serengeti during the calving season. Flying in saves hours on the road, so nearly every moment is spent among the wildlife. You’ll visit three top destinations of the Northern Circuit, with two nights based in the Ndutu area, giving you time to enjoy the plains at a relaxed pace. Between December and March, thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather on the nutrient-rich southern plains to give birth, and the sight of newborn calves taking their first wobbly steps is a breathtaking wildlife spectacle. With so many young animals around, predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are never far away, so the action unfolds throughout your game drives. It’s a quick, efficient way to witness the calving season without giving up your time on the coast.
Life on Safari
On this day, you will arrive at Seronera Airstrip, and your adventure begins with a game drive toward Ndutu. In Ndutu, enjoy a half-day game drive with a picnic lunch. Ndutu’s sweeping grasslands merge seamlessly with the Serengeti and form part of the route for the annual migration of over 2 million wildebeests, accompanied by thousands of zebras, antelopes, and gazelles. From December to April, this area becomes a vital calving ground and nursery, attracting predators eager to hunt vulnerable young. The region’s water sources, including Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek, sustain abundant wildlife even during the Dry season. Ndutu is also home to 6 species of big cats — leopards, lions, cheetahs, caracals, servals, and wildcats — offering thrilling predator sightings. After a full day of wildlife action, you’ll transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Between January and mid-February, an estimated 4,000 wildebeest calves are born daily.
