Tanzania's hidden gem — ancient baobabs, legendary elephant herds of 500+, and tree-climbing lions in a dramatic river landscape.
Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most underrated safari destinations — a wild and beautiful landscape famous for giant elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and dramatic seasonal wildlife migrations. Located just a few hours from Arusha, the park offers a quieter and more intimate safari experience compared to the busier northern parks, making it ideal for travellers seeking authentic African wilderness.
During the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes the only permanent water source in the region, attracting thousands of animals daily. Massive elephant herds, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and predators gather along the riverbanks, creating extraordinary game-viewing opportunities. The park is also one of the few places in Tanzania where visitors may spot rare tree-climbing lions resting in sausage trees or acacias.
Beyond wildlife, Tarangire’s scenery is unforgettable. Towering baobab trees dominate the horizon, golden grasslands stretch endlessly across the savannah, and seasonal swamps attract hundreds of bird species. Whether you are a first-time safari traveller, wildlife photographer, bird enthusiast, or family adventurer, Tarangire delivers a classic African safari atmosphere with fewer crowds and exceptional biodiversity.
Witness some of the largest elephant concentrations in East Africa, with herds of 300–500 elephants gathering near the Tarangire River during the dry season.

Discover over 550 bird species including yellow-collared lovebirds, hornbills, kori bustards, fish eagles, and migratory birds during the wet season.
