Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's best-kept secret — the largest national park in East Africa at over 22,000 square kilometres, yet one of the least visited. This vast wilderness in southern Tanzania offers an authentically wild safari experience free from the tour vehicle congestion found in the more famous northern parks. Those who make the journey to Ruaha are rewarded with some of the most spectacular and pristine wildlife viewing available anywhere on the continent.

Ruaha is a stronghold for African wild dogs — one of the continent's most endangered carnivores — with one of the highest densities in Africa. The park is also home to over 10,000 elephants, the world's largest remaining population of greater kudu, and rare species including roan and sable antelope not found in the northern parks. Lions are extremely well habituated to vehicles, and leopard sightings are outstanding.

The landscape is dramatically beautiful: the Great Ruaha River carves through the park, providing a permanent water source that draws wildlife from hundreds of kilometres in the dry season. Ancient baobab-st escarpments, sand river beds, and open miombo woodland create a mosaic of habitats that supports extraordinary biodiversity. Ruaha is the destination for true wildlife enthusiasts seeking an experience that feels completely unspoiled.

  • African wild dogs — one of the highest densities in Africa
  • 10,000+ elephants (world's largest elephant concentration in a single park)
  • Rare roan, sable, and greater kudu antelope
  • No crowds — vast wilderness with barely any other vehicles
  • Outstanding lion and leopard sightings year-round
