Ndutu is the place to be for experiencing the Great Wildebeest Migration in full swing, with views of Lake Ndutu stretching out in the distance. From November to May, migratory herds move through the area and provide a feast for the resident predators, so dramatic sightings are a regular part of the day. The lakes also attract flocks of flamingos and other water birds, adding color and variety to your game drives, and animal viewing is excellent everywhere you look. Over six days you travel at a comfortable mid-range level, combining the wildlife-rich Ndutu plains with the wider Serengeti and the scenery of southern Tanzania. When the safari ends, you fly out from Seronera Airstrip to Zanzibar, trading the dust of the savannah for white sandy beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. It’s a well-rounded journey that pairs the spectacle of the migration with a relaxing finish on the coast.
Life on Safari
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Tarangire National Park, named after the Tarangire River. The park has dense vegetation, including elephant grass and acacia woodlands. It’s famous for its elephant families and other wildlife like giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeest. You might also spot lions, leopards, and various bird species. After lunch and a game drive, you’ll head to the lodge for dinner and spend the night there.

Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which includes lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. You will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the south-western corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can usually be seen here.

After breakfast, you will head to the Lake Ndutu area, situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. Lake Ndutu is alkaline, like most of the other Rift lakes. However, the water is still drinkable and used by a wide array of local wildlife.
You’ll arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. After lunch, you will do an afternoon game drive in the Ndutu area. The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephants, birds, and resident game.

After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a full day game drive in the Ndutu area. You’ll explore the range of different habitats that include swamps, woodland, soda lakes, and the world-famous Serengeti short grass plains. You’ll see great herds of wildebeest and zebra. During a short time frame around February, normally lasting for about 3 weeks, the majority of the wildebeest calve. The sea of grass provides little cover, and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born, and within 3 days, they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd.

Serengeti National Park is easily Tanzania’s most famous national park, and it’s also the largest, at 14,763 square kilometers of protected area that borders Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Its far-reaching plains of endless grass, tinged with the twisted shadows of acacia trees, have made it the quintessential image of a wild and untarnished Africa. Its large stone kopjes are home to rich ecosystems, and the sheer magnitude and scale of life that the plains support is staggering. You’ll enjoy your en route game drive at Serengeti National Park.
